Starter 3 Read an academic article on annotations with your tablemates. You will want to split the reading up with each other. After you've read and annotated each of your sections, start with page 1 and share the arguments and evidence the author provided all the way through the end of the document. Starter 3 is the notes you keep from this group discussion. The Things They Carried Reading/Annotating Time You have developed three choices for annotating this text. 1) Traditional style-- 7 sticky note annotations per chapter. Same ol', same ol'. 2) Powerful Quotes/Dialectical Response--for folks who want to write more than a couple words. 3) Creative Option-- Make a VLOG, create a found poem, or make an illustration. You need to talk over your proposal with me for these, though. Cold War Notes We continued watching the Crash Course video. If absent, make sure you get these notes from a trusted classmate. 1. What patterns do you notice here about how these countries below are grouped? 2. What are some commonalities between countries in the different groups? 3. What possible explanations can you come up with for these groupings? -First World Countries= US Allies (Blue): Canada, Western Europe, Turkey, Australia, Japan, S. Korea
-Second World Countries= USSR Allies (Red): Eastern Europe, China, Vietnam, Cuba -Third World Countries=nonaligned (Green): Africa, Central and South America, Middle East, Southern/Asia/India A proxy war is a war that results when opposing powers use third parties as substitutes for fighting each other directly. Typically proxy wars function best during cold wars as they become a necessity in conducting armed conflict between at least two belligerents while continuing cold warfare. As tensions raised during the Cold War, countries supported people in other countries who aligned with their ideologies. Vietnam was a proxy war. Homework No annotations for Chapter 1! A gift to you!
