Resume Gallery Walk
1) Make sure your resume is printed off and on your desk at the start of class. 2) Look at 5 resumes besides your own. --Split a piece of notebook paper into three sections labeled "Formatting," "Categories" and "Descriptions." --List at least two items per category that are better than how your resume is written. 3) Return to your desk and make a list of the top three revision priorities that you have. 4) Start revising your resume! Get some better verbs in your resume to make it pop! Cover Letters Models: Lyle and Mila 1. Purpose of a cover letter a. Show how you fit job qualifications b. Show employer you can write professionally and clearly c. Give employer context and evidence for some of the things you've listed on your resume d. Talk about things that don’t fit on your resume, but show you're qualified for the position 2. Reverse outline a. Descriptions: 1 sentence about what each paragraph is trying to do/communicate? b. Find a TEA paragraph and highlight the T, E, and A in that paragraph c. What do you notice about how this letter is written? 3. Cover Letter Guidelines (on the TPOL Prep Guide) a. Review guidelines sheet with students, answer any questions 4. Process: a. Choose 3-4 of the qualifications you think you can best speak to, and provide evidence b. Choose 1-2 pieces of evidence for each qualification you chose. c. Write cover letter, using TEA paragraphs want to emulate? List at least 3 things.

You need to do this before you develop your website or any marketing materials. Choose single-sided and make sure your names are NOT on the paper. * Have a quick discussion with your group re: "What sections of your proposal do you think are strongest? What sections need the most refinement?" Gallery Walk *10 minute rounds. Each group moves together. *Provide specific, kind, and helpful feedback via sticky notes or this handout. *After each round, debrief with your group: 1) What did you like the most about this proposal? 2) What is the largest priority for revision? Capture Feedback Now that you've received oodles of feedback (some specific and helpful...some not so much!) your group needs to capture the lot of it. *Don't judge the feedback...yet. Just list it. This is harder than it sounds! *Insert specific comments using the Comments feature in Google Docs. *List general feedback at the bottom of the proposal.
