Fill in and review notes from Hardcore History (up to minute 45!) -Review your notes within 24 hours of taking them. Studies show that you will forget 50% of what you learn during a lecture if you don't review your notes with 24 hours. - Fill any blanks you left and answer any questions you may have from lecture. -Use the left-hand margin to annotate your notes indicating key terms, concepts, dates, and any other important information that will help you to review for exams or write papers. -Use the bottom margin to write a summary of each pages of notes--or, if it makes more sense, summarize at the end of one set of lecture notes. Following these steps will you to store information in your long-term memory and better learn your course material the first time around-- a real timesaver when it comes to reviewing for quizzes, tests and exams. First Thing's First Being able to talk about the way an author uses literary techniques is an important ingredient to having interesting and deep conversations about a piece of literature. Interesting and deep conversations are awesome! Take a look at the Literary Techniques list. 1) Star the techniques you know. 2) Put a question mark next to the techniques you don't know well. We'll make sure that this year you grow in your knowledge of these techniques and your ability to use them. Yessir! Discussion Prep At your table, please choose two chapters that you would like to hold a group discussion about. (If you were absent, please email your table members to ask which chapters were chosen.) The instructions on this document will help you come to your discussion prepared to talk about the author's use of literary techniques, clear up confusion for each other, and ask each other deep, open-ended questions. Please write your answers and responses in your journal. Use notebook paper if you don't have your journal. **IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION: On the document's instructions it it says to answer this set of questions for EACH Chapter. (1, 2, 3, and 4.)That's my bad. I realized in class that this way too much work for you to do today. That's why I had your table groups pick 2 chapters, instead.
