Short Story Mentor Texts PART ONE- Choose a short story. It must be a short story of literary merit. Remember, we are trying to study from the MASTERS...so, don't even think about using a story that's unpublished. Push yourself!
PART TWO-Create a Powerpoint, Prezi, or Google Presentation that contains the following. BESIDE THE TITLE SLIDE, THESE CAN BE IN ANY ORDER.
PART THREE- Present your findings to the class on the day you are scheduled below. Presentations should be no more than 3 minutes long. They should demonstrate your ability to comprehend/analyze text, cite evidence, and speak your findings in a professional and informative manner. Make these stunning and beautiful!
If you are absent, you will need to plan on signing up for a day later in the week so you can see what other students are doing.

Details on time are still being formed, You'll want to expect to be there for a minimum of 1 hour though.
SLC Organization -Check out the rubric. -Organize your evidence and notecards SLC Rehearsal -You will work in groups of 4. -You each will need your SLC notecard and your laptop. -As one of you performs your SLC spiel (with the utmost sincerity), two group members act as stand-ins for the parents. That means one of you lucky ones will get to be the sibling. Using the rubric handout, evaluate the speaker's performance once he or she has finished. -Spend 2-3 minutes speaking about each class. -Repeat this process until everyone has rehearsed their SLC. 1) Create a story using words of one-syllable only, beginning with a phrase such as: “The last time I saw her, she...” “From the back of the truck..." “On the night of the full moon...” “The one thing I know for sure…” 2 ) Describe a significant place, allowing the details to reveal why the place matters. Describe it from a tree or rooftop or from a hawk’s point of view. Describe it from the height of a dog or a turtle. Primary Sources and Secondary Sources For your research notes, you need to understand the difference between Primary and Secondary sources. Primary Sources (http://www.princeton.edu/~refdesk/primary2.html) Document, object, photograph that was created during the time that is being studied
Secondary Sources: A secondary source interprets and analyzes primary sources. These sources are one or more steps removed from the event. Secondary sources may have pictures, quotes or graphics of primary sources in them.
