LISTEN (or READ) I know who you are and how valuable you are, youngen. You don't have to impress me with your ability to write professional emails. That's not what this is about. I'm already impressed by your simple existence. But, the rest of the world is not that nice, friends. The rest of the world is not that forgiving. I've found out myself the hard way and so have a lot of other adults. If you want to change the world then you must first learn how to speak in the world. That's a very big part of our time together--learning to speak the language of the World so that you can transform it with your art, your craft, your power. Attendance!
Grab a notecard and take 2 minutes to draw a self-portrait. Incorporate your name and the today's date. Use crowns---or crAYons--colored pencils or just pen/pencil to sketch a brief self-portrait. Log into your Animas email. 2. Goto your Google Drive. 3. In your Humanities folder, create a folder called "A Moment In Time." This folder will catch all of your ideas, drafts, critiques, and ultimately your finished work. Story Brainstorm 1. Yesterday... 1) We split into groups after reading the story by ourselves. 2) In these groups, we tried to think about how to adapt the story. 3) We began sketching storyboards and began planning how to act out a scene of their choosing. Today... 1)Take 15 minutes to finish sketching storyboards for this vignette. Everyone should have a completed, hand-drawn storyboard ready to turn in. 2) Rehearse for 15 minutes in your groups. 3) Performances with a discussion following. Discussion Questions Episode Structure: 1) What initiates Richard's actions in the story? 2) What is richard attempting to do? 3) How many attempts does he make? What is the result of each attempt? 4) What is Richard's response to the results? Were You Absent Today? If you were absent today, please: 1) Make up the starter before you return. 2) Take at least 30 minutes to answer the discussion questions listed above in a Google Doc. Why? You missed a critical discussion today that had us looking at how the author used episode structure and details to craft a stellar narrative. I need you to show me that you understand how he's using these elements. This is all to help you do the best you can on your project. If your absence is excused, you have until Wednesday, Start of Class to show me these answers. Here's a copy of the story if you don't have yours with you at home. Show and Tell Q: What is this? A: This is a time for you to share something with the class. Because we value respect, we make time to listen and try to understand what others have to say. Q: So, as a student, what do I need to do to prepare? A: We will sign up later this week for our slots. All students should execute this least twice a semester. Bring in something that you can share in under 3 minutes. You can bring something to read (poetry, prose--published or unpublished) that gives insight into who you are and what you value. You could also bring in an instrument and serenade us. You could even bring in a 3 minute or less song for us to listen to together. If you do this, make sure your get lyrics for us to look at, though. Be prepared to explain in a sentence or two why this thing is important to you.
