Welcome to Creative Writing!Class Names In this class we all go by class names of our choosing rather than our given names. We’ll use our class names for the entire semester. You are free to tell each other your given names of course, but in class we will call you by the name you’ve chosen. You can pick the name of a character that exists in myth or fiction or even non-fiction, like Medusa or Shrek or Ruth Bader Ginsberg. You can choose to name yourself after an ‘entity’ of some sort, like NASA or MasterCard or Purgatory or $$$ You can choose a character of any gender, from any point in time. Think of a name that you’d to hear said out loud a lot over the semester. If you are unable to chose a name you’ll be given the name of an American President, assigned in order. First up is George Washington. At the end of the semester your name will be retired. You’ll be able to use it again, but no other student will be able to use it in the future. Format: name in upper right hand corner, staple in upper left hand corner, Times New Roman, 1.5 spacing (ie standard formatting for most papers) This assignment should be done in one sitting and should be as close to a rough draft as you can stand. You should spend at least 45 minutes on it and no more than an hour. Keep it on the spontaneous and casual side. The point of the assignment isn’t good writing, it’s to help me get to know you a little and to gather some material for a future class project. Please include the questions below in the body of the document. 1) What is your given name? 2) Were you named after someone? If so, who? If not, what do you know about how your name was chosen? 3) What is your class name? 4) What can you tell me about it? 5) What year are you and what is your field of study? ( ex: Sophomore, Botany ) 6) Where did you grow up? Tell me three quick things about that place. 7) What classes did you take last semester? What was your favorite? Why? 8) Name a place you liked to go when you were a kid. Why? 9) What classes are you taking this semester and why? 10) What was something you really liked to do when you were a kid? 11) How about a place you really hated to go. Why? 12) Tell me a story about a haircut. 13) Name the first ten pets you can remember. They could belong to you or belong to other people. 14) Physically describe an adult you disliked when you were a kid. 15) Describe an adult you really liked when you were a kid.
